My Dress Hangs There

2016

This painting is a tribute to Frida Kahlo’s ‘My Dress Hangs There’. I wanted to pay homage to Frida through reinterpreting the dress with, not one of my own dresses, but that of one of my dolls, who are my main art medium and mode of expression. The doll dress hanging in between the buildings and city life in America, is essentially not really there, as it can be moved, transported and manipulated just as a doll would be, mirroring the feeling of unbelonging to Frida Kahlo in her painting.
